So what's it all about?
Blowclub is a news and discussion forum covering the Somerset area, although Blowclub will cover all Somerset locations, a particular focus will be on the popular beach of Weston-Super-Mare. As well as the social side there will be a serious one where local authorities will be encouraged to post proposals and announcements which could disrupt or effect our activities, and report any safety concerns or problems related to the wind powered water sports groups
So why now?
Now is a busy time for wind powered water sports, with Kiteboarding having that same addictive effect as Windsurfing it looks set to stay busy. With the problems that arose while Kiteboarding was in its development stages, a strong awareness of wind powered sports was brought to the attention of beach management teams on a global scale. With Weston's long sandy beach and easy access, its an obvious choice for these activities in the Somerset area and has become a popular destination. With more awareness, more risks become apparent, steps are then taken to ensure the safety of all beach users. The decisions that then follow could have an effect on the activities that we live for.
About the editor?
I bought my first Windsurfer from 'Lannings Windsurfing' shop in 1989, after my eyes had been opened to the sport on a school activities holiday to Exmouth. Once I persuaded my Mum to drop me off at Weston beach after school, there was no going back and I like many others grew a strong connection with this unique place. Blowclub is my contribution to help keep Somerset beaches as free and rewarding as they have been to me all these years.
Blowclub history?
It all started in March 2003 as a web portal for Somerset Windsurfers. A strong focus was on, up to date news and weather information in the Somerset area, including the popular Tree Cam. There was a beach guide, viewers pictures, weather links and the odd Retro Day at Weston. One of the main reasons for Blowclub was a way of contacting the Somerset coasts wind powered water sport enthusiasts. Being in contact with North Somerset Council and other authorities, Blowclub could notify wind powered sport enthusiasts of issues that effected their activities.
So what happened?
The editor wanted to give the site a make over and introduce things like forums, so the site was pulled down in 2005. I then became distracted, started new projects and before you know it a couple of years has passed. An eye was kept on the beaches situation and Blowclub tried to keep in touch with the authorities and continue to send the odd announcement to Blowclub's e-mailing list.
What's the future?
Spread the word and lets get everyone registered, email all you friends that haven't already heard and download the promo flyers to hand out on your next visit to the beach, maybe a Blowclub party for 2007!
